The Summer I Died Movie Update, 2024
Stillwell Avenue Productions Acquires Shopping Rights for Film Version of THE SUMMER I DIED
Ryan C. Thomas has signed a deal with producer, Jack Ivins, and Stillwell Avenue Productions to shop the cult classic novel, The Summer I Died, to movie studios. Ivins’ credits include Wrath of Man, which starred Jason Statham and was well received by audiences and critics alike. It was directed by Guy Ritchie. Ivins previously worked on films such as Aladdin, Edge of Tomorrow and The Gentleman, among others.
“When I read the book, I related to the characters’ friendship and was engrossed in the tension of such a dark story,” said Ivins. “I’m confident we can bring a fantastic rendition of this novel to the big screen.”
Thomas’s book, originally released in 2006, has been a notable work in the extreme horror genre for nearly two decades. It follows the exploits of two young men whose lifelong friendship is slowly ending as adulthood takes their lives in different directions. While spending their last summer together out target shooting in the woods, they hear a scream and go to investigate, suddenly finding themselves fighting for their lives against a sadistic serial killer. Two sequels were published—Born to Bleed and Scars of the Broken, with a fourth book on the way.
